The Mauritanian Organization for the Defense of Human Rights and Human Development (OMDHD) is an independent non-governmental organization, founded on the firm belief that respect for human rights and the promotion of human development are two essential pillars of stability, progress and prosperity.

The organization was born from the conviction that protecting rights and building humanity are inseparable. Since its founding, it has combined rights advocacy with grassroots development work, acting as a bridge between communities and decision-makers, and a voice for those who have none.
We adopt a participatory approach that places people at the heart of every intervention, starts from the real needs of communities, and builds on partnership, transparency and accountability.
Protecting fundamental rights and freedoms and anchoring the rule of law.
Building the capacities of individuals and communities and supporting education.
Empowering women and youth and strengthening their active participation.
